Daddy and Daughters First Carnival

I heard that Mics cousin Sasha was planning to put together a band for Huddersfield Carnival called Majestic Mas a few months ago. So I asked if I could join as Mics and May May were going to perform already. I had never played at a carnival before and I have always wanted to perform.

So Sasha and her family started to create the costumes for us, working tirelessly to make sure everything was perfect. The theme for this was Black Panther Children of T’Challa. I was immediately sold with this as I’ve always been a massive fan of comic book superheroes and this felt natural for me.

So it came to the week of the carnival and I was feeling so nervous about playing in front of such big crowds. But I didnt want to let Sasha down as I fully support what she was doing. I tried my costume on and it felt amazing on me.

On Friday night before carnival me and my family went to a Glow street party, which is the night before the big day. I absolutely loved the atmosphere and music that they played. Everyone really enjoyed themselves and it really helped me to get rid of my nerves. After this I felt ready for carnival.

The big day came and we all made our way into town to join the parade. You could sense the anticipation in the air as the crowds began to gather.

Once the procession started it was so exhilarating as i was feeding off the energy from the music and the band. I didnt feel embarrassed at all it was such a special feeling playing in front of the crowds and the good vibes it brings with it. Everyone looked like they really enjoyed themselves.

I have to say Sasha did a fantastic job putting all of the costumes together and she is really great at what she does. It was a pleasure playing for Majestic Mas and im so glad that I did it.

Postnatal Depression: Realising You Have It

This post is about me realising I wasn't just stressed, I have Postnatal Depression. It's also a post that I am hoping will show others going through this, that they are not alone and it's okay to talk 💗 "Postnatal depression is when you have feelings of sadness, hopelessness, guilt or self-blame all the time for weeks or months after you’ve had a baby."  (Taken from Tommy's Website) I guess you could say this started from my antenatal depression. I was 7 months pregnant and our landlord had decided he wanted to sell his house, serving us eviction papers. Imagine that. 7 months pregnant, a nearly 2 year old, Christmas was a month away and I was now being told we would be evicted. Obviously I was stressed! I wasn't having a smooth pregnancy as it is, I did not need this on top of everything. OJ tried his best to keep me calm, but I could see the effect it had on him too. We spoke to our local council who said there were steps the landlord had to take befo...

5 Month Reflection Of Our Princess

This week our May May officially turned 5 months old and I couldn't be more happier with how her development is going so far. She is so alert these days and has started to notice her hands and feet more often. It has been a massive learning experience for me as this is my first time being a parent but it has all been worthwhile.  I have struggled with nighttime routines with her as this is when she gets more agitated from teething and growing pains. Its hard to see her in distress and i try to give her as much cuddles as possible which sometimes calms her down but over the course of time she has become more playful.  I love it when I enter a room and she gives me the biggest gummy smile. It totally fills my heart up when she does that and it immediately makes everything else minimal. May May has also learnt how to roll over onto her stomach which is a joy to see and how she has the ability to move her body in different positions while laying on her back.  I ...

The Joys of Mayarna

It's been a while since I last wrote a blog but I feel I've got too much to keep to myself. May-May is 18 months old and boy has she developed into a character! She is so full of joy and knows how to cut some serious shapes (making me look bad lol) with any music you can give her. The way she picks up things, responsds and answers in her own speech astounds me as I couldn't have imagined her learning so fast.  When we were on holiday in Benidorm, she would wave at anyone who passed and I think she made a few friends along the way with her quirky facial expressions. I can see how carefree she is and even at times goes into a full speech randomly. All the locals loved her and when we went it to shops they would give her treats like lollies and sweets.  I think for me, seeing May-May pick up all these new traits it lets me know that we are raising an amazing child who never stops surprising us. We have been trying to get her more used to walking and leaving ...
